Little Italy: A Taste of Italian Cuisine in the Heart of Kota Kinabalu

After hours of sprawling around the city, it was just fair to cosset ourselves with some scrumptious meals for lunch. Our stomachs had been growling for something great. Having heard about the most visited restaurants around town, one that really struck my attention was the famous Little Italy.

It is an eminent Italian restaurant which is perfectly situated at the ground floor of Capitol Hotel. It nestles in the hub of the city where taxis and buses accessibly drive along its Italian inspired portico.

Upon entering, the red brick veneered walls created a genuine ambiance of Italy itself. The interior of this restaurant was like a magical portal that brought us to another place.   It was so unlike regular Malaysian restos and establishments.  I felt like I never left Makati or The Fort.  Indeed, it was pretty weird but enchanting.

Adding up to such enchantment was the aromas of the Italian spices which smelled all over the place. It was enticing our senses which made us crave for another splendid experience.

Inside the dining area was a crowd of local and foreign customers during peak hours; notwithstanding, the crowd of diners outside who were fond of smoking while enjoying their orders.

Well for us, since this restaurant offered an array of Italian entrees, pizzas, pastas and desserts; the task of choosing what to fill our hungry tummies was a bit challenging. Taking a few minutes of browsing on the menu, we finally had our food shortlist. We ordered a set of mouth-watering cheese pizza, cannelloni, and oil based pasta; as well as an appetizing dish of spaghetti meatballs for my daughter.

The serving time only took less than 10 minutes.  The waiters took no time to deliver our orders with utmost courtesy. Our lunch was finally served in front of us. All the ingredients used were fresh and truly Italian.

A bit pricey for its servings compared to most Malaysian food; my family and I truly enjoyed each and every bite of the dishes we had. Honestly, the food was excellent! Era squisito! (That was delicious!)

Overall, it was an authentic taste of traditional Italian cuisine. Exceptionally, Little Italy is one precious gem in the heart of Kota Kinabalu you wouldn’t want to miss.
